How Mountain Bike Gears Work

How Mountain Bike Gears Work

The gears in mountain bikes just keep getting more
and more intricate. The bikes of today have as many
as 27 gear ratios. A mountain bike will use a
combination of three different sized sprockets in
front and nine in the back to produce gear ratios.

The idea behind all these gears is to allow the
rider to crank the pedals at a constant pace no
matter what kind of slope the bike is on. You can
understand this better by picturing a bike with
just a single gear. Each time you rotate the pedals
one turn, the rear wheel would rotate one turn
as well (1:1 gear ratio).

Crawling Up a Steep Hill

If the rear wheel is 26 inches in diameter, then
with 1:1 gearing, one full twist on the pedals
would result in the wheel covering 81.6 inches of the ground. If you are pedaling at a speed of 50 RPM,
this means that the bike can cover over 340 feet of
ground per minute. This is only 3.8 MPH, which
is the equivalence of walking speed. This is ideal
for climbing a steep hill, although bad for ground
or going downhill.

Flying Fast  Down a Slope

To go faster, you’ll need a different ratio. To
ride downhill at 25 MPH with a 50 RPM cadence at the pedals, you’ll need a 5.6:1 gear ratio. A bike
with a lot of gears will give you a large number
of increments between a 1:1 gear ratio and a 6.5:1
gear ratio so that you can always pedal at 50 RPM,
no matter how fast you are actually going.

On a normal 27-speed mountain bike, six of the gear
ratios are so close to each other that you can’t
notice any difference between them.

With actual use, bike riders tend to choose a front
sprocket suitable for the slope they are riding on
and stick with it, although the front sprocket can be difficult to shift under heavy load. It’s much
easier to shit between the gears on the rear.

If you are cranking up a hill, it’s best to choose
the smallest sprocket on the front then shift
between the nine gears available on the rear. The
more speeds you have on the back sprocket, the
bigger advantage you’ll have.

All in all, gears are essential to mountain
bikes as they dictate your overall speed. Without
gears you wouldn’t be able to build speed nor would
you be able to pound pedals. The gears will move
the pedals and help you build up speed.

There are all types of gears available in mountain
bikes, all of which will help you build up a lot
of momentum if you use them the right way.

Mountain Bike Frame Materials

Mountain Bike Framing Materials

The cost of a mountain bike frame is proportionate to
its material, as well as the treatment that material
has received. Currently, there are five types of
material used in mountain bikes – high tensile steel,
Chromoly steel, aluminum, titanium, and carbon
fiber. Oversized diameters, heat treating, and butting are
tubing material treatments that will increase the
cost of a frame as well.

High tensile steel

This is a very durable alloy that’s found in lower priced mountain bikes. It offers a high carbon content
which makes it less stiff than Chromoly steel, so
more materials are needed to make it stiff enough for
bicycle frames, which will, in turn, make it that much
heavier.

Relatively inexpensive to produce, you’ll find this
the material in trail bikes, city bikes, and even entry
Level mountain bikes. Some bikes come
with a Chromoly seat tube, while the rest is high
tensile steel.

Chromoly steel

Short for steel alloy, Chromoly is best described by
its major additives – chromium and molybdenum. This
is probably the most refined framing material, giving
over 100 years of dependable service.

Depending on the type of heat treating and butting,
you can find this material on bikes as low as 400
Dollars all the way up to 1,500 and beyond. The
chromoly steel material offers excellent durability
and a compliant ride characteristic.

Aluminum

For the past 15 years, aluminum has been refined in
pretty much the same way as Chromoly. There have
been various alloys developed, as well as heat
treatment, oversizing, and butting. With dual
suspension bikes, aluminum is the preferred material
as it’s the stiffest and most cost-effective.

Aluminum is stiffer than Chromoly, and therefore it
will crack before Chromoly. Of course, this depends
on how you ride and how much abuse you give the frame.
The advantages of aluminum are that the frame is very
light and very stiff through oversizing or butting.

Titanium

Even though it’s somewhat exotic, the prices for
this material has come down over the last few years.
Frames made of titanium remain expensive because of it
takes longer to weld the tubes to the frame.

Titanium is considered an alloy, generally mixed with
small amounts of vanadium and aluminum to give it
better weldability and ride characteristics. More
compliant than Chromoly, it offers better fatigue
and corrosion properties.

The material you choose for your bike, all depends on where you ride and what style you use. Almost
all materials will last you for years, as long as
you take care of your bike and treat the frame with
some respect.

Cross Country Mountain Biking

Cross Country Mountain Biking

Cross country mountain biking is cross country at
its finest. Where free riders and downhill bikers
use four-wheel bikes and ski lifts to get them to
their destination, cross country bikers get to
the top of the mountain by the ride. Though free
riding is very popular, the life vein of the sport
has always been cross country biking.

Just as cross-country riders are a different breed,
the bikes they ride are as well. The cross-country
bike is entirely different in many ways from other
types of mountain riding bikes. The premise for
cross country riders is speed. Everything about
their bikes revolves with the idea of making the
bikes faster and faster.

Bikes used in cross country mountain biking can
be a fully rigid frame, hardtails, or even full
suspension frames. Through the years, the cross
over to full suspension has become very popular.

Notice the Difference Between Bikes

The weight difference between freeride bikes and
cross country bikes are considerable. You’ll be
extremely hard-pressed to find a bike that weighs
more than 24 pounds, and even that weight can be
cumbersome. Freeride bikes weigh close to 40 pounds,
which makes the difference in weight pretty close.

If you’ve never tried cross country mountain biking,
you’ll probably find it to be a break from the
ordinary. Even though this type of biking involves
trails, it’s usually the type of terrain that
beginners wouldn’t want to ride. Involving hills
and rough terrain, cross country biking offers
quite the rush.

For mountain bikers everywhere, cross country is
the way to go. It offers you a new assortment of
bikes, new areas to bike, and a new twist to
mountain biking as you know it. If you’ve been
looking for a mountain biking rush, cross country
mountain biking is what you need to be experiencing.

Different Types of Mountain Bikes

With mountain biking being a trendy sport,
there are many bikes to choose from. Depending
on what type of riding you like, the style of
bikes you can choose from will vary. Below, you’ll
find tips on the different types of bikes available.

1. Cross country

Almost all mountain bikes will fit into this category.
Cross country mountain bikes are lightweight, making
them easy to ride over most terrains, even up and
downhills. This is the most common mountain bike
and it can be used with ease for riding on the path
or even commuting.

2. Downhill

These types of bikes are for serious bikers who
crave the ultimate adventure. Downhill bikes have
front and rear suspension, durable parts, and disc
brakes. Rarely available off the shelf, most riders
like to custom build their own.

3. Trials

Trail mountain biking involves a great degree of
skill and is classified as the precision riding of
the sport. Similar to downhill bikes, trial riders
will often build their own bikes rather than purchase
one off a shelf. Generally very light and very
strong, these bikes require a lot of discipline.

4. Jump and slalom

Slalom and jump bikes are solid design
for jumping, street racing, and slalom. They offer
a front suspension and use solid components
dedicated to what they do. These bikes are very
popular with the sport of mountain biking.

Even if you are new to mountain biking, the sport can
be a lot of fun. There are several bikes to choose
from, all of which depend on your style. If you are
still looking for the best suited design style for you, all you
have to do is try out several bikes and see which one
suits you the best.

Mountain Bike Hire or a Purchase?

Mountain Bike Hire or a Purchase

It can be a bit frustrating as well as time-consuming
When you buy a mountain bike. Below, you’ll find
some tips and things to be aware of before you lay
down the cash and buy a mountain bike.

How much to pay?

There is really no limit as to how much money you can
spend on a new mountain bike. To help you keep your
spending under control, you should figure out what
your price range is and how much your willing to pay
for a new bike. When you buy, you shouldn’t buy from
mass merchant stores such as Wal-Mart. You should
instead support your local bike shop and get a much
better bike and much better service.

Bike for what purpose?

All mountain bikes are designed with several different
riding styles and terrain types in mind. You’ll need
to figure out what kind of riding you will be doing
the most. Smooth travel, cross country racing,
mountain cruising, or lift accessed downhill is
something you need to figure out. Make sure that
the bike you select fits your personal style and not
that of the sale’s staff.

Full suspension or hardtail

If you can afford it, a full suspension mountain
the bike is always worth the purchase. A hardtail,
without rear suspension, is much lighter weight
and pedal more efficiently, although full suspensions
offer more comfort and overall better control. You’ll
want to make that decision based on your price range,
riding style, and the type of terrain you’ll be
riding on the most.

Style and Appeal

Comparing mountain bikes component to component is
nearly impossible, as there are far too many combinations
available. The best way to go about doing this is
finding a few components that are the most important
to you and making sure the rest or the minimums fall
within your price range. You can start with the fork
then look at the wheels and rear derailleur.

Sales and seasons

During the year, the prices of mountain bikes can
fluctuate quite a bit. Spring through summer is the
main buying season. If you can wait until the right
price pops up, normally in the fall and winter, you can
save a couple hundred dollars. Many bike shops will
also offer discounts or other accessories if you buy
from them.

Seek out  a good dealer

Finding a good bike dealer is more important than finding
the best price. You should always find a dealer that
cares more about selling you a great bike than selling you
a high priced one. A great dealer will have a clean repair
shop and give you the impression that you can really
trust them.

Test ride Mountain Bike before buying

You should test ride as many bikes as you can within
your price range and riding style. You’ll find that
some bikes will feel right, while others won’t. The more
bikes you can test drive, you better you’ll understand
what works and what doesn’t.

Doing the research Locally or Online?

Product reviews and bike reviews are some of the best
ways to find out about a mountain bikes reliability and
overall performance. You should always look at what
other owners and reviews think about a bike before you
make that final purchase.

The Nemesis Book Preview

DEDICATION

“This book discusses the fight for the independence of Finland as its central theme. However, the relatively short 500-year history of Finland did not take shape in a vacuum. There were many interacting causes, during 400 years under the rule of King of Sweden, followed by 100 years under the Russian Monarchy, with the Grand Duchy of Finland governors, autonomous formality, but progressively working to sideline and Russification of the cultural roots of the Suomi people’s national identity and destiny.”

“Before the King of Sweden started taking an interest in the territory of Finland around 1300 AD, Finnish-language speaking people and other indigenous tribes like the Lapland nomadic Sami peoples had visited and lived during many thousands of years along the shores of the Bothnia Sea, the central lakes, and Lake Ladoga. Along the shore of the Gulf of Finland, to Karelian Isthmus, North Karelia, the early people in the ancient of days were speaking a common language that became to be known as the Suomi language”…………

Chapter 1.

THE LAND

“The Nordic people were born into a natural environment, with a cultural connection to the land and the seasonal cycles of life. From the early beginnings, the children were raised to learn and interact with the natural environment, that stored up lifelong memories of all the seasonal changes. From the hibernating deep snow and ice-covered winters to the awaking of the spring season to the endless sunlight days of the midsummer solstice”…….

CHAPTER 2. STATE OF NATURE

“The state of nature existed for the early inhabitants of the land between the Gulf of Finland and the Bothnian Sea, and along the shore of the Lake Ladoga, freshwater lakes, moss bogs, creeks, and rivers all the way north to the White Sea. Some individual people were more or less in tune with their inner intuitive spiritual being, living amongst the precious resources of the natural environment and the starlit night skies”.

“We cannot even begin to imagine the interactions that a human spirit—the mind and soul— go through when its life is entirely dependent on the provisions that the natural environment provides. People that lived their lives surrounded by the natural living environment, interacting with the life that was so rich everywhere during the spring, summer and autumn season that is what shaped their spirits and personalities. God-given natural life demonstrated through the natural environment; they were the recipients of that life, and they knew it”.

Chapter 3.

Imperial Grand Duchies of Finland 1581.

“An extended Southwest Finland was made a titular grand duchy in 1581, when King John III of Sweden, who as a prince had been the Duke of Finland (1556–1561/63), extended the list of subsidiary titles of the Kings of Sweden considerably. The new title Grand Duke of Finland did not result in any Finnish autonomy, as Finland was an integrated part of the Kingdom of Sweden with full parliamentary representation for its counties”.

Finnish War 1808

The Finnish War fought between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Russian Empire from February 1808 to September 1809. As a result of the war, the eastern third of Sweden established as the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland within the Russian Empire.

Emperor Nicholas II

Nicholas II (1868 – 17 July 1918) was the last Emperor of Russia, ruling from 1 November 1894 until his forced abdication on 15 March 1917. The people of the Russian revolution rejected their Monarchy system.

The People Finland In the Imperial Power Vice.

“The people of Finland grew up on land, located between a rock and a hard place. The two Imperial Superpowers were Sweden on West side of the Bothnia Sea, and Russia on the East side of Lake Ladoga and the Neva River. Both Imperial superpowers have influenced, intimidated, invaded, educated and betrayed trust with the people and the government of Finland over the last 500 years. These two-imperial superpowers were not equal; they have a very different history, cultural values, and national identity.”

“The two Imperial superpowers also had different ambitions, inclinations, prejudices, dispositions, and motives in invading the people of the Nordic countries.”

“It is refreshing to think how Sweden has managed to stay within their national skin. The Soviet Union was not able to stay within their Russian national skin, almost like a giant snake eating up others outside their borders, and always restless, and never satisfied or settled. The ability to stay within one’s skin takes self-control.  There has to be the ability to see some good in what they have. They have acquired vast natural resources, mostly from indigenous peoples lands. What is Moscow if all the indigenous people like Sami people of the Kola Peninsula and the Sami people of Siberia and further East were given their original ancestral lands back?”

Help With Data Recovery

Help With Data Recovery

If you’ve had something bad happen to your hard drive and find yourself looking for data recovery help, your probably in a hurry, not wanted to listen to hype or schemes.  Many individuals who have experienced the loss of their data cannot wait, and need to have their data now.  Businesses on the other hand, need to have their data up and working so that they can continue to carry out their normal day to day operations.

Anytime you experience problems with your hard drive, you can count on data recovery to recover your data.  There are a few options available, the first being recovery specialists that can actually come to you.  They will look at your computer and your hard drive, and first determine what caused the hard drive to malfunction.  Data recovery specialists are highly skilled computer technicians, and know the hard drive inside and out.

Good specialists are those who can be there anytime you call.  You don’t want someone who isn’t reliable, especially if you are looking to establish a relationship.  If the technician is able to be there immediately, he or she is showing that they are dependable.  In the event of data loss or hard drive failure, you’ll want someone who doesn’t waste any time at all.

Another option available to you is software programs.  These programs are great to use, although they must be used before you problem.  You can’t use them after the disaster has happened, as there is nothing there to install it to.  If you install the program before hand and keep it installed, it can help you after the disaster.  Most programs keep your previous data and information on file, so just in case something does happen to your hard drive, it will be available

In the event of a hard drive failure, virus, or natural disaster, there are options that you can use to recover your data.  The most popular are data recovery technicians and data recovery software.  For businesses and corporations, technicians are the preferred way to go.  Technicians can recover your files, even rebuild your hard drive if they need to.  In the event of a hardware problem, the software won’t be able to do much for you.

Anytime you need help with data recovery, you should always look towards a specialist to help you.  They can fix most problems, and more importantly – restore your precious data.  No matter where you live, there should be specialists close by who are always on call.  Most charge very reasonable prices, and will come to you in the event of an emergency.  When you compare specialists to software – the specialists are by far the best option for helping you with your data recovery.

Computer Diagnostics

Computer Diagnostics

The diagnostics that are associated with computers can help to identify any problem or failure that computers show when they are having problems.  Diagnostics are used to test out the computer system, which includes both the BIOS and memory, software, and even the hardware that is attached to the computer.

The most common types of problems will occur when your computer is down to very low resources, which can either be a low amount of RAM, or a low disk space.  These conditions are very common, and generally result in your computer running very slow.  This can easily be fixed, all you have to do is defrag your hard drive, and get rid of some programs and files that you no longer use or need.

Almost all types of computer diagnostic software can find and fix just about any problem that you are having.  It normally starts off with a BIOS examination, and goes on from there.  PC diagnostics
software can determine a lot from the BIOS, from the common settings to those that have a major impact on both boot up and performance.

No matter what you do, you should never modify or tamper with the BIOS settings, as it can lead to serious problems.  If you do plan to modify or mess with your BIOS, you should always create a backup first, just in case something goes wrong.  The BIOS settings can be very tricky, although they are responsible for a lot to do with your computer.  If you have never been in the BIOS before, you really shouldn’t be modifying anything inside of it.

Depending on the diagnostics program that you are using, there will be several different features available.  Right now, two of the most popular are Norton Systemworks and PC Doctor.  Both of these programs offer full diagnostics software, good for fixing just about any software related computer program you can imagine.

Once you run the program, you’ll be able to select the diagnostic test that you are planning to run.  Some offer you a full system scan, which will scan your entire computer and then display any problems that you having.  After displaying any problems, the software will normally give you an option to go ahead and fix it.  As long as the problem is nothing serious, the diagnostic software can generally fix it.

The more complicated problems, such as hardware failures or hard drive crashes, are a totally different story.  They will require a technician who is very experienced, that can rebuild the hardware.  Diagnostic software can report hardware problems to you, although most of the time it is unable to fix it.

There are other computer diagnostic software that you run after starting the computer or rebooting, that will check everything from BIOS.  These types are great, although the types such as Norton and PC Doctor are by far superior.  They offer far more features, including defragment, cache cleaner, and the option to delete your temporary Internet files.  These features are great to have, especially if you aren’t the technical type.

For more reasons than one, computer diagnostic software is the ideal way to find and prevent problems with your computer.  Norton Systemworks offers you Ghost as well, which is the perfect way to back up your data.  You can back up certain files, or just go ahead and back up your entire hard drive.  Systemworks and Ghost are very easy to use, even if you are completely new to computers.  For everything they offer you – computer diagnostic programs are the ideal way to prevent problems before they happen.

Script Issues – Write Yourself or Find a Writer

Script Issues – Write Yourself or Find a Writer

Looking at all of the options for your script it is really easy to become thoroughly confused when you are working on a script.  Trying to ensure that the script is laid out properly, all characters are developed well and you do not miss any of the finer details is enough to drive even the most sane director crazy.  Struggling to avoid all of these problems can create even more problems, especially as you are trying to decide if a writer is what you need, or if you should attempt to work out the script yourself.

It is a good idea for all filmmakers to work on their own scripts at some point.  While this is not a skill that has to be thoroughly developed, it can be a very useful skill that many directors cherish.  Having the ability to quickly modify a script themselves is something that can save time, but will also allow for the temptation to continuously play with the script as well.  For filmmakers who have a good working background with writing you may find that working on the script yourself is best.  This is not always the case though; many filmmakers have found that working on the script themselves is a problem.

Some of the problems that can occur if you are working on the script entirely yourself include a lack of time.  When you are working to prepare for a feature film there are a large number of things that need to be done.  Working out costumes, locations, equipment and even possibly working on a budget are all hassles that must be handled.  Hiring a writer to handle these problems for you can free up your time as a filmmaker to work on what you enjoy, and leave the details of writing and laying out the script for someone else.

Additionally you need to consider your budget, if you have a very small budget, or something that is closer to nothing than a budget at all you may find that it is necessary to write the script yourself just because you cannot afford a writer.  You still have a few options if you find yourself in this position though.  It is important to take your time when writing the script if you need, but instead of just diving into the script you could feel free to look around for someone who is willing to write for you in order to gain experience.

Finding a writer willing to work for just experience will not last for long, and often you will need to agree to pay a percentage of any money that the film makes, but it certainly beats paying a large premium for a writer upfront.  Additionally, using a writer who is willing to work for a very cheap rate can allow you to build a great working relationship with someone else who is just starting out.  These contacts can serve you well in your entire film career and should always be encouraged if at all possible.

Regardless of your ultimate decision over whether hiring a writer or just writing the script yourself, ensure that you really make sure it is developed properly.  Rushing through a script, even if you are paying for it can cause a lot of problems because you will have great difficulty getting the high quality that you need to produce a high quality film.  Never cut corners on the script since this will be one of the lifeblood’s of your movie.

10 New Year’s Resolutions for Teachers

10 New Year’s Resolutions for Teachers

Learn which eye vitamins naturally improve eye health. The Rebuild Your Vision Ocu-Plus Formula was designed to improve vision and eye health, and help people with Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and Cataracts.

Are you a teacher? If so, you may use this New Year to make a fresh start. Do you want to make it “your year?” If so, please continue reading on for a few New Year’s resolution ideas for teachers. Since each idea is fairly small in size, you may be able to accomplish the entire list before the end of the school year!

1 – Keep Your Desk Organized

Most teachers have relatively clean and organized desks. Is yours? If not, now is the time to make the change. Examine your school’s supply closet or purchase a few organizational tools out-of-pocket. A clean desk not only improves productivity, but it sets a good example for your students.

2 – Grade Papers Quicker

If you are a teacher, you may have your own grading system in place. Do you always wait three days before grading papers? That is fine if it is your style, but why not try doing so sooner? When you get a task, like grading papers, out of the way, you are able to focus on other tasks, such as next week’s lessons plans or even your personal life.

3 – Get to Know Your Students

Do you know all of your students’ names? If you are an elementary school teacher, you should. If you are a teacher at a large high school, you may teach thousands of students. In these cases, it can be difficult to learn and remember all student names, but try it. Rely on assigned seating and use a seating chart as your guide. If you must, create catchy jingles to remember their names.

4 – Have Parent Teacher Conferences

Many elementary schools require parent teacher conferences. For high schools, parent teacher conferences typically aren’t required unless there is a problem. If your school gives you the freedom to schedule meetings with parents, do so. Most parents love to be updated on their child’s progress at school and other parents need to pay more attention. Either way, these conferences are a good idea.

5 – Get to Know Other Teachers

Once again, if you teach at a small to medium sized school, you may already know most of the other teachers in your building. If not or if you teach at a large school, make an effort to get to know other teachers. Say hello to others in the hall or start a casual conversation in the break room.

6 – Volunteer

Most schools are loaded with sports and other extra curricular activities. Why not offer to help? Even if you aren’t the main group leader, see if your services are needed on occasion. If there are no clubs or organizations that fit your likes and hobbies, consider starting your own. Most times, all you need is a few interested students and the okay from school officials.

7 – Make Yourself More Available

As a teacher, you need to proceed with caution. There is a difference between making yourself more available for students and crossing the line. With that said, always have time for your students. If you suspect a student may be suffering from family problems, but do not have proof to report to authorities, be available to provide a little bit of professional support.

8 – Be Yourself

As a teacher, it is important to not intentionally or unintentionally break school rules, but be yourself. You do not have to be a cookie cutter teacher. Do not compare yourself to other teachers or follow their style just because. Got something that works, like a fun way to teach children multiplication and division; give it a try! Who cares if it has never been done in your school before?

9 – Ask for Help from Parents

Most parents give their teachers Christmas and end of the year gifts. It is common for elementary school students to get gifts from parents and students. If your school allows this, ask the parents to donate something for the class instead of a personal gift. Suggest items the entire class can benefit from, like a new book, map, puzzle, and so forth.

10 – Remember You Can’t Do It All

Even the best teachers can only do so much. Children must not only be helped by teachers, but parents and the school district as a whole. Since you can’t do everything, don’t apply too much pressure on yourself.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018

There are other computer diagnostic software that you run after starting the computer or rebooting, that will check everything from BIOS.  These types are great, although the types such as Norton and PC Doctor are by far superior.  They offer far more features, including de-fragment, cache cleaner, and the option to delete your temporary Internet files.  These features are great to have, especially if you aren’t the technical type.

For more reasons than one, computer diagnostic software is the ideal way to find and prevent problems with your computer.  Norton System works offers you Ghost as well, which is the perfect way to back up your data.  You can back up certain files, or just go ahead and back up your entire hard drive.  System works and Ghost are very easy to use, even if you are completely new to computers.  For everything they offer you – computer diagnostic programs are the ideal way to prevent problems before they happen.
